Muna Daud

Muna Daud is a multidisciplinary designer, engineer & medical researcher with a social entrepreneurship mindset and a passion for products and services that will impact people's lives. She obtained her bachelor’s degree in biomedical engineering and Electrical Engineering from George Washington University in 2020. Since then, she has been working as a system design engineer in Washington D.C. before pursuing an MA/MSc in Innovation Design Engineering run by both the Royal College of Art and Imperial College London. Through her projects, she bridges the gap between the technical aspects of healthcare and the human-centered design principles that ensure accessibility and inclusivity; Seamlessly blending design research, engineering, and user experience to create holistic solutions that are both functional and user-friendly.

Awards

  • Finalist 'Grand Challenge 2022' by RCA: Vaquita, VR immersive product that provides a new way to experience ocean species up close for the conservation of the world's most endangered species.
  • Shortlisted 'VCC 2023': Creative & Consumer Track' by Imperial Enterprise Lab with Dailya, a low-tech period-pain relief underwear.

Design should be an authentic and natural translation of the human experience, which is I embed a human-centered approach to deliver a solution that fulfills the users’ needs. RCA has given me the platform to pursue my passion for designing Femtech medical devices that improve women's health, and my prior biomedical engineering experience and skills developed during IDE have been instrumental in shaping my creative design and engineering disciplines.

Product Flowsense is a device that empowers women to manage their menstrual care with a discreet, accurate, and non-invasive method, whilst educating them. With many women facing limited availability of accessible feminine hygiene products; the lack of autonomy and privacy can exacerbate the constant fear of staining clothes and amplify feelings of uncertainty and vulnerability in making hygienic decisions. FlowSense revolutionizes menstruation by creating an inclusive approach to menstrual care.
